They already have a 1Live crown in their pocket, count seven-figure monthly listeners on Spotify and play sold-out venues from Rome to Paris to Manchester - Giant Rooks are arguably considered the most promising band Germany has had to offer in a long time. In 2015, singer Frederik Rabe, guitarist Finn Schwieters, bassist Luca Göttner, keyboardist Jonathan Wischniowski and drummer Finn Thomas founded Giant Rooks. Originally from Hamm, the boys have since established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the German music scene. The band also has a steadily growing fan base beyond the country's borders. The fact that the boys only graduated from school a while ago and have not been in the music business for long is not at all noticeable. The combination of outstanding musicians, very mature songwriting and the captivating voice of singer Frederik Rabe make Giant Rooks a band with great potential. Their music sounds like a mixture of indie rock and folk with electronic influences. Giant Rooks draw sound inspiration from Kanye West's hip hop as well as Bon Iver, while their song structures are inspired by Bob Dylan.
In 2015, the band released their first EP, The Times Are Bursting The Lines. A year later, Giant Rooks joined Razz, Kraftclub, Von Wegen Lisbeth and The Temper Trap on tour as support band and played selected festivals in the summer. In the same year, the band received the PopNRW Award for Best Newcomer. The release of the second EP "New Estate" followed at the beginning of 2017, with which Giant Rooks set off on their first own headlining tour directly afterwards. In March 2019, the new Berliners played a few shows as the opening act for Annenmaykantereit. A month later, Giant Rooks started their own tour with the EP "Wild Stare", which was released shortly before. While the concerts in Europe and Germany were sold out, the single reached the Top 100. After three EPs in five years and more than 350 live performances, "Rookery", a long-awaited and critically acclaimed debut full of anthemic melodies, was released in summer 2020. In 2022, Giant Rooks will finally be able to tour with the album. In addition to concerts in Germany, Giant Rooks will play in Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and, for the first time, Scandinavia, Spain and Poland.
When Giant Rooks are not on tour or working on new tracks, they are on the line-up of various festivals, most recently Kosmonaut, Appletree Garden, Haldern Pop, MS Dockville and abroad at Y Not and Kendal Calling in England and Ypsigrock in Italy.
