What sets this tour apart is the Originalklang Project itself. The Mahler Academy Orchestra brings together 45 students from the Gustav Mahler Academy in Bolzano with 55 professional musicians drawn from ensembles including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Staatskapelle Dresden. Together they perform on reconstructed instruments of the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra from around 1910, using historical gut strings, period brass, and techniques from the fin de siècle era. The result is the closest possible recreation of how Mahler himself heard these works.
